PE at Newfield Park
Every child at Newfield Park Primary School will have a wide range of opportunities to explore and develop their skills and abilities in PE through both the curriculum and a wide range of activities. Each child will have the chance to take part in physical activity and sessions in EYFS, leading to PE lessons in KS1 and KS2. Initial skills and understanding from the early years are developed and then built upon to challenge and engage the children throughout their time at Newfield Park. PE lessons range from Dance and Gymnastics, to developing an understanding of a range of team games and their related skills as well as Outdoor/Adventurous activities and swimming. Some lessons are led by specialist sports coaches.
As well as PE time, children are also encouraged to take part in our wide range of After School Clubs that are being constantly updated and changed according to the interests and needs of our children. This offer of extra-curricular clubs is intended to encourage all children to pursue their love and enthusiasm for sport and activity as far as they can. We also encourage local sports clubs to interact and engage with our Newfield community, offering PE sessions to the children as well as After School Clubs and opportunities to join their teams. Our extra-curricular offer also extends to school residentials where pupils experience a wide range of Outdoor and Adventurous activities such as high ropes, climbing, abseiling, raft building and assault courses to name but a few!
Furthermore, to give the children the chance to experience competitive situations and enable time to challenge themselves, we also offer a wide range of opportunities to compete against other schools in a variety of sports and activities. These include activities such as football, cross country, cricket, rugby, athletics and many more and are offered to children of all sporting abilities. As part of some of these competitions, children have the opportunity to advance to further rounds. Newfield Park have enjoyed particular success in the Halesowen Schools Football League, Cross Country events and at the Halesowen Primary School Athletics Meetings. Some of our pupils have also gone on to perform at a more elite level either representing the country in swimming and cross country or participating in cricket and football academies.
The children at Newfield Park are also encouraged to take an active role in their physical education at Newfield Park. To achieve this we have a range of strategies in place such as Pupil Voice, House Captains, children leading parts of their PE sessions and Play Pals as well as many other that are piloted throughout the school year.
