Newfield Park Primary Academy has been awarded Music Mark status for 2025-26, marking a second consecutive year that the school has received the national recognition for excellence in music education. The award highlights the Academy’s commitment to providing inclusive, high-quality musical experiences for all pupils.
Music is central to school life at Newfield, with pupils taking part in weekly lessons, singing assembles and cross-curricular activities. These opportunities allow children to develop practical skills while exploring the role and impact of music in everyday life.
Specialist teaching is provided by Dudley Performing Arts (DPA), which delivers tuition in piano, guitar and drums, and leads the Academy’s choir rehearsals.
The school also promotes a strong culture of musical performance, with pupils regularly showcasing their talents at live events with the support of DPA, including summer productions and an annual rock festival. A recent highlight was the Young Voices concert in Birmingham, which brought together around 9,000 children from primary schools across the UK. Performances like these give pupils the chance to collaborate, perform before an audience and build confidence through practical experience.
Steve Payne, Principal at Newfield Park Primary Academy, said: “Music is a vital part of life at Newfield and is about more than lessons and performances – it brings the whole school community together and gives every child a chance to discover their talents.
“Being recognised with the Music Mark for a second consecutive year is a wonderful endorsement of this work as well as the enthusiasm and dedication of our pupils and staff to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum.”
Dudley Performing Arts supports schools across the region, offering tuition, workshops and community events to help young people develop skills and engage in the arts. Its partnership with the Academy ensures pupils benefit from a wide range of musical experiences throughout the school year.
Founded in 2013, the Music Mark award celebrates schools and organisations that provide inclusive, accessible and high-quality music education for all children and young people.
