Pupils Explore Rivers at Carding Mill Valley

Year 5 pupils took their learning beyond the classroom with a hands-on field trip to Carding Mill Valley in Shropshire. Despite the rain, everyone showed great enthusiasm as they explored the Ashbrook River, putting their classroom knowledge into practice.

Linking to their Geography and English lessons, pupils measured the river’s depth, width and flow rate, and identified features they had studied in class, including meanders, riffles, and man-made structures. The visit gave them a chance to see first hand how rivers shape the landscape.

Principal, Steve Payne, said: “The trip to Carding Mill Valley was a brilliant example of learning beyond the classroom, with experiences like this helping to bring the curriculum at Newfield to life for our pupils.”

Learners returned to school with big smiles, muddy boots, and a deeper understanding of rivers – proof that a little rain can’t stop great learning in action. The school extends its thanks to all staff and volunteers who supported the visit and helped make the day such a success.
