Pupils from Newfield Park Primary Academy celebrated sporting success after securing medals at the Halesowen Athletics Championships.
A selected group of years 5 and years 6 pupils represented the Academy at Halesowen Athletics Club, competing in a range of track and field events including running races, relay, throwing events and the long jump.
Competing against peers from schools across the local area, the team demonstrated determination and teamwork throughout the day. Despite the warm conditions, the children continued to encourage one another, celebrate fellow competitors and demonstrate excellent behaviour, showing respect both on and off the track.
The championships were hosted by Halesowen Athletics Club, which has been based at The Manor Abbey Stadium since 1949. The club provides opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to take part in athletics, including track, field and cross country, and welcomed schools from across the area for the annual event.
School Principal, Steve Payne, said: “We know that opportunities beyond the classroom play an important role in helping children develop confidence, resilience and belief in their own abilities. Events such as the Halesowen Athletics Championships allow pupils to challenge themselves, experience healthy competition and learn the importance of supporting one another.
“We were incredibly proud to see our pupils represent Newfield so positively. Their achievements were fantastic, but equally important was the kindness, encouragement and respect they showed towards each other and the other competitors throughout the day.”
Year 5 pupil, Libby, said: “Halesowen Athletics Club was amazing. I loved that there were other schools there we could compete against. Everyone was so kind and supportive – I even made a few new friends who might go to the same secondary as me.”
The event provided pupils with the opportunity to develop their sporting skills, build confidence and create positive experiences through competition, while celebrating the values of teamwork and respect that underpin life at Newfield Park Primary Academy.
