Newfield Park Celebrates Music and Wellbeing in Dudley Performing Arts’ Harmony Event

As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, Newfield Park Primary Academy proudly joined schools across Dudley to take part in the highly anticipated Harmony event, organised by Dudley Performing Arts. This inspiring occasion brought young voices together to support wellbeing, connection, and community through the power of music.

This year’s Harmony event featured primary school children from across Dudley participating in a live-streamed sing-and-sign-along, performing Connected Together, a specially commissioned song focused on promoting positive mental wellbeing. Accompanied by a live band, the performance highlighted the power of creative expression and emotional connection that music can offer. Thousands of children have taken part in Harmony events over the years, making it a key celebration of music and mental health awareness.

Pupils at the Academy were excited to take part in the borough-wide performance. Throughout the term, they worked closely with tutors from Dudley Performing Arts to rehearse for the live performance, learning not only the music but also the sign language accompaniment, enabling all children to connect more deeply with the song’s message.

Steven Payne, Principal at Newfield Park Primary Academy, commented: “Opportunities like this are incredibly valuable for our pupils. They not only allow children to develop their musical talents, but also support wellbeing, build confidence, and give pupils a sense of belonging and shared purpose.

“To see our children come together with others across the borough in such a joyful and meaningful way was truly special. We are so proud of how they represented Newfield Park and are grateful to Dudley Performing Arts for creating such an enriching experience.”

The performance was met with enthusiasm by both staff and pupils, who appreciated the opportunity to come together as a school community. Events like this are an important way to encourage children to express their emotions through music, collaborate with their peers, and build confidence. It was a meaningful experience that reinforced the value of supporting each other’s wellbeing and fostering a positive, inclusive environment within the school.

Newfield Park Primary Academy continues to champion opportunities that go beyond the classroom, helping pupils grow into confident, compassionate individuals who are equipped to engage with their community and the world around them.
