Maths

Welcome to our Maths page!

Maths at Newfield Park

At Newfield Park Primary Academy, we want our children to love learning Maths.  Our aim is for all children to enjoy Mathematics and to experience success in the subject by developing their mathematical skills and knowledge.

When teaching Maths at Newfield Park, we intend to provide a curriculum which is tailored to meet the needs of all children.  We create a challenging environment where children's learning centres on developing their fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

These skills are embedded within Maths lessons and developed consistently throughout the year.  We are committed to ensuring that children are able to recognise the importance of Maths in the wider world and that they are also able to use their mathematical skills and knowledge confidently in their lives in a range of contexts.

Cross curricular learning

What makes Maths learning at Newfield Park even more effective, is how we develop children's understanding and love of Maths through cross curricular learning; especially in subjects such as Science and Geography.

Maths competitions

Children from Years 3-6 also have the opportunity to take part in the Dudley Maths Championship against other schools in the Borough.  This is an exciting time for us and a chance to be proud of the success we have in Maths at our school.  We have reached many finals, finished in the top three and have even achieved first place!

Maths Ambassadors

Children across the school are given the opportunity to become a Maths ambassador.  The purpose is to promote Maths in school through pupil leadership and children have already developed many of their ideas.  One idea that was developed further in school is Maths home learning club; led by the children.  This is a great way for children in our school to help and support each other with their weekly homework.

Maths at home

We are signed up to TT Rockstars and Numbots which is another way we want to support children's learning.  Through these online resources, children develop their maths knowledge in a fun and exciting way. Teachers print off children’s certificates as they achieve their rock status.

KIRF's

Each half term, children will work on a fluency target in school and at home, these are called KIRF's (Key Instant Recall Facts), the KIRF's consist of key facts children should aim to know 'by heart'.  By learning these key facts fluently, our children will be prepared to apply these skills when problem solving and reasoning.
