Year 6 Remote Learning Pack Autumn 2 2021
The learning pack above contains some reading comprehension and grammar activities, as well as some maths activities linked to the topics we will cover this half term. Please contact the Y6 Staff if you require more information or resources.
Geography Autumn 2: The Amazon Basin
After our History work on the Ancient Maya focused on Central America, our new Geography topic transports us to South America, where we will study the mightiest river of them all: the Amazon.
With a source located high in the Andes Mountains, the Amazon flows from Peru and into Brazil, where it is joined by countless tributaries and swells to become a truly colossal river - by the time it reaches the Atlantic Ocean, the Amazon has a flow rate greater than the next 7 biggest rivers combined. Furthermore, the river basin it creates (a 'river basin' is the area of land where any rain that falls eventually flows into the same river) is the largest in the world, at about 2.5 million square miles. That is about the same size as the mainland USA!
This incredible volume of water, coupled with the hot, humid, tropical climate so near to the equator, also supports the Amazon Rainforest: the greatest rainforest on Earth and one of our planet's natural wonders. It is estimated that about 1-in-10 of all species in the world live in this single biome. No other location has such biodiversity.

Both our indoor and outdoor PE sessions will be on a Tuesday afternoon. Children should come to school in their PE kits on a Tuesday. If possible, children should not wear earrings on this day.

Planners
Year 6 will be given special Planners this year to record their reading and Home Learning, as well as to refer to throughout the day to assist them in their lessons. This will be fantastic preparation for Year 7 and we are really excited about it!
